Our 2017 Pelham Old Home Day Theme is “Celebrating Our Excellent Educators.” To that end we are very pleased to honor 2 exemplary Pelham citizens as our 2017 Pelham Old Home Day Grand Marshals this year:
Rebecca Cummings has been an educator for 10 years, teaching fourth and fifth grade at Pelham Elementary School. Rebecca’s love of science has inspired her students to make connections that can be utilized in all subject areas throughout their education. She refers to this as minds-on, rather than hands-on, learning.
Rebecca is a 2014 Awardee of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and travelled to Washington, D.C. last September to be honored by the National Science Foundation and the Obama Administration. Rebecca is now the STEAM Teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) for first through fifth grade at Pelham Elementary School.”
Cheryl Andrews has been teaching first grade at Pelham Elementary School for 13 years. She was awarded the 2016-2017 Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award for the Elementary School Level for the State of NH.
Cheryl and her family have lived in Pelham for 24 years, and her 2 children were educated at Sherburne, Memorial, and Pelham High School. Cheryl taught kindergarten for 6 years at the Steepletop School.
Rebecca and Cheryl are great examples of the many fine Pelham educators past and present as we “Celebrate Our Excellent Educators.”
